Introduction

Congratulations you have just provided yourself an opportunity to play free golf and make money that is sure to make others totally envious when they find out what you are doing. Most people go through life hating the work they do, and so, earning a living becomes a job, but the ones that have fun with their occupation, often lead much happier and productive lives. Which one are you? With this marketing plan you have just given yourself an opportunity to earn a living in a way that is fun, exciting, and challenging.

The idea I am about to present is nothing new, businessmen and women all across the country do it everyday. But the concept of providing this program as a service for businesses is. I am going to show you how you can take something business executives do each and everyday and turn it into a fun and profitable business.

I happened to run in to this opportunity quite by accident and I know of few if any in the country or around the world providing this service. The business of furnishing a service to entertain business clients on the golf course is something fairly new. I have seen business that have hired individuals to do nothing but entertain customers on the golf course, but most business can’t afford a full time employee to just that. There are many companies that would love to have an individual do their golf entertaining for them. This would free their time to conduct other important business. But because the cost to hire an individual to do this on a full time basis is not justified in most cases, most companies don’t do it. Should this service be available on an as needed basis, (just like temporary employee services) companies can now afford to justify your service.

Why am I sharing this with you and not doing this myself? Well quite frankly I already have a fun job in golf, I caddy on the Pga Tour and I am not home long enough to get this started in my area. So I have decided to share this with others.

In this volume I am going to give you everything you need to know to earn an excellent income simply for playing golf. Of course, you probably should choose to make slight variations in the program to fit your personality. Just be careful to follow the basic principals, they have been tried and they work. Don’t change solely for the sake of change. Use the sales techniques just as they are laid out before you, they have already been proven to work. I want you to be successful and I am sure you will.

Now you may be wondering what this program is all about and how you earn money for playing golf. I am going to give you the basics of the program so you have an understanding of what this plan is all about. Complete details will be given as you read through the marketing plan.

The Basic Concept

You are going to learn how you can play golf seven days a week without costing you one dime of your own money, earning you three hundred dollars or more each day you play using this method.

This all came about quite by accident and I am glad it did. After a conversation I had in which someone stated. “I need to learn to play golf because I have numerous clients that play. I feel I should be able to entertain these clients on the golf course but because I don’ play golf I don’t have the opportunity to do so”. I then said to him “let me ask you this, since you don’t play, would you be willing to pay someone to play and entertain your customer for you on the golf course?” He said “absolutely.” A light bulb went off in my head. Here is an opportunity for golfers to have fun and make money playing golf. Since he didn’t play golf anyway (it would take him a while to learn and I don’t know that he really wanted to learn to play) Someone could take his golfing clients out on the golf course for him, show them a nice time, and get paid for it. I began to wonder how many others were in a similar situation. After doing some research I discovered there are basically three different situations that occur for executives to have a need for this type of service.

1. Many executives have clients that love to play golf but they don’t. They realize the need and benefit of entertaining these clients on the golf course. Since they don’t play, you could be their next best alternative.

2. Next there is the busy executive who enjoys playing golf, but because of the five to six hours often required to play 18 holes, he doesn’t have the time to entertain his clients on the golf course. Although he knows he should make the time to entertain them. You may not get to do all his entertaining for him, but I can assure you there will be times when he could use your services.

3. Last you have the executive that plays but is not a very good player. Often they can be embarrassed to play with their clients. Rather than be intimidated by this situation they would rather have someone golf for them.

Have you ever stopped to notice how many service oriented businesses have sprung up over the last few decades? People and businesses are always willing pay someone what they can’t or aren’t willing to do. You can find hundreds if not thousands of executives willing to pay you to play golf with their clients in your own home town. They will be willing to pay you because they can’t do it for one reason or another. You can make this work, but like any other business you will need to put some time and effort in to set the whole program up properly. It’s a great way to make a living or just earn some extra money on a part time basis.

Let’s Get Started

You now have this incredible marketing plan. The first thing you must do is read it from cover to cover, absorb as much of the information as possible. I have tried to include everything you need while not burdening you with unnecessary information. Next, you must decide to use this program as it is laid or are you going to make some changes to it.

Don’t make up your mind right now I am sure you will make some changes or adjust your strategies based on your own experience and knowledge. Nevertheless, if you desire feel free copy this step for step, it will work just as it is laid out for you.

Set Your Plan

First, it’s important that you have a plan and follow it step by step. Remember most people don’t fail, they fail to plan. It is essential that you put your plan in a clear concise manner.

The Complete Program

The first step should be to obtain a list of all the golf courses in your area, both public and private. Pick four or five quality courses which you would want to do your entertaining (you only need one or two to get started). Some of the courses you choose may be public of semiprivate, although it’s generally not necessary for you to obtain permission to play at these facilities, I believe it’s important to visit these courses (if you are not familiar with them), to be sure they are quality golf courses. While the appearance of the club house is not all that important the quality of the golf course is. Be sure the course is a good layout and well maintained. One sure way to fail is to entertain your clients at poor quality golf courses. Next you should know the price of greens fees and cart at all the courses at which you plan to entertain (more on that later). As far as private facilities are concerned it will be necessary to obtain permission to play at these courses. In most cases the person you will need to contact to obtain permission will either be the head golf professional, director of golf, or general manager. In your attempt to obtain authorization at private clubs, don’t waste your time on Country Clubs that have full memberships or that are extremely exclusive. Your chances at clubs such as these are slim and none. On the other hand if the golf course doesn’t have a full membership or has a housing development surrounding, with housing lots for sale definitely talk to them. More later on how to play at private, exclusive, and full membership clubs.

Obtaining Permission to Play At Private Clubs

One approach to obtain permission which has been quite successful is as follows. After deciding which courses you wish to entertain on, you contact the Head Golf Professional or General Manager. The final decision making is going to vary from one facility to the other. Begin by explaining that you have set up a service of entertaining top corporate executives at various golf courses throughout the area. Be sure to emphasize that these are generally going to be wealthy influential people. Your next step is to emphasize the benefit to the golf club for allowing you the use of their facility.

1. You will help them increase revenue by bringing people to their course that would not normally play there. Most of your play will be conducted during off peak hours (such as mornings or early afternoons. You will be filling time slots that would otherwise go unused).

2. You will increase revenue in their club house and pro shop. In most cases, players will need to purchase gloves, balls, etc in addition to food and beverages. Be sure to stress that most will end up in the club house after golf for a couple rounds of drinks.

3. In most cases the golf courses that are private, and allow you to use their facility, do so because they don’t have a full membership. Stress the fact that the type of individuals you will be entertaining are those that can afford such a club, and that because of your opportunity to expose them to their golf course they may obtain a membership sale due to them allowing you to play there.

4. Should the golf course have a housing development surrounding the course, (most do) again stress that they may sell a lot or home due to you being able to play there. There may be other benefits to the golf course you may want to use, feel free to do so if you wish, but these four benefits have worked well. Once you have one or two courses lined up you are ready for the next step.

Identifying Your Market

Identifying your market is something you don’t need to do; I have already done this for you. However you may discover a few new markets not listed here. Remember this may vary depending on what area of the country you live in. I believe you first need to look for businesses that sell high ticket items or that have repeat customers they tend to do more entertaining. Examples of these types of industries are:

Computer

Real Estate (Commercial)

Automotive

Advertising Agencies

Accounting Firms

Beverages

Manufactures Reps

Business Machines

Construction

Engineering

Steel

Air Cargo

Transportation (Trucking)

Attorneys

Medical

Catering

Insurance

Recycling

Waste Management

Hazardous Waste

Medical Billing

Telecommunications

These are just a few of the potential clients that can use your service. Look through the front of the yellow pages of your local phone book, you will find an extensive list of potential clients.

Marketing Your Service

This is the most difficult but important task necessary to make your service successful. If you spend a little time in the beginning, apply the principals I give you, you will have a constant flow of clients coming to you. You may utilize one or all of the principals I give, they all work. But you must market your service, the better you are at marketing the more money you will make playing golf.

Advertising

Advertising is the most effective yet expensive way to market this service to a large audience. Should you decide to advertise (which I recommend you do), you must select a medium of advertising that will hit your target market. Business journals, business sections, and sports sections of your local newspaper are the most effective for hitting your local business markets. It’s been proven these are the sections that busy executives read most often. The drawback here is they tend to be the most expensive. Local golf publications hit a much smaller number of individuals but are often very inexpensive. Placing ads in these types of publications can be a hit or miss proposition.

Reaching Out of town Executives

This can be one of the most lucrative markets. Many out of town executives travel three to five days a week, they have clients in multiple locations and often cannot find time to entertain their clients properly. This is due to their extensive travel schedules. Once they discover they can have their local customers entertained while they conduct business in other locations, you will receive repeat business again and again. Traveling executives are often bored during overnight stays and tend to read publications left in hotel rooms from cover to cover. Publications left for hotel guest convenience include periodicals such as dining guides, points of interest, attraction guides, etc. These are excellent means of advertising and will produce quality response. Your ideal target here is upscale hotels and the publications they provide for their guest.

Writing Your Ad

I am going to leave this area totally up to you to use your own creativity. I have included a flyer with your package which should help to give you ideas. Feel free to use any of all of the ideas provided. I will make one suggestion; try to incorporate this saying into all of you advertising it is sure to catch their attention.

“They are your clients! If you don’t entertain them your competition will”

Cold Calling

Cold calling will provide the least expensive means to start your business. However it is also the most time consuming and often frustrating ways to begin.

You first begin by having business cards printed with your company name, address, and phone number. Five hundred business cards should cost less than twenty dollars. Next have sales literature printed explaining your service. I will include what I believe would work, feel free to use it or make something on your own.

You Are Ready to Begin Calling

Begin by calling on businesses that have repeat customers. Be sure they are upscale businesses and not mom and pop operations. It is essential that you dress in a suit and tie so you identify your business as a first class operation. This is important not only in how you represent your business but also shows how you will represent theirs. Introduce yourself and your business to the receptionist, tell him or her that you are a service oriented business that entertains business clients on the golf course for various companies. Ask them if you can speak to the sales manager or whom ever is responsible for client relationships (be careful here, many times you will be steered in the wrong direction). If they say they are busy or require an appointment, be sure to get their name and phone number, leave your business card and sales literature and follow up on the phone for an appointment.

The following is a great time saver, when following up on the phone or if you have an opportunity to be face to face with a potential client. You need to qualify the person you are talking with to be sure they are the decision maker for your service. This can be done by telling them what you do and simply ask them if they are the one that would make decisions in this area. Don’t waste time with someone that can’t make the decision. If they are not the one that is responsible, find out who is, and get to that person.

Sales Presentation

Introduction:

Introduce yourself, your company and what you do to your client. By telling them what you do, they more than likely will listen to you because this is such a unique business. Be yourself do what comes natural to you.

Warm Up: (Don’t skip this part!)

Get to know your client, find out what their interests are and talk about them, not about yourself. People tend to buy from someone they like. You may feel small talk is a waste of time, it isn’t.

Introducing your service:

This is just an example of what you can say, feel free to change this to fit your own personality; Mr. Customer, our company is introducing our golf entertainment service to busy executives such as yourself. As you may know golf is the largest participation sport in our country today. Over 22 million people play golf at least five times or more a year. Additionally, golf is one of the popular ways to entertain business clients today. What we have discovered is that most businesses are not effectively capitalizing on these client relations for one of several reasons.

1. They are extremely busy individuals and don’t have the spare five or six hours necessary to entertain clients on the golf course.

2. They have never played golf, and never intend to play but they have clients that do play. It would be a huge benefit to them if they could entertain these clients with a round of golf.

3. They do play, but not very well. They are a little apprehensive to take a client out because of their golfing ability.

Mr. Customer which one of these reasons would best explain why you or your employee’s do not entertain all the clients you could on the golf course? Be careful how the above comes across, you don’t want to offend them by assuming they never entertain clients with golf. However, you want them to realize they may not do it as often as they should. The answer to the above question will indicate where you should focus your attention. For example; we are going to say this client indicated number two as the reason for not entertaining customers. Your comeback should be Mr. Customer our company has found there are many businessmen such as yourself that know the importance of entertaining their clients to golf, but don’t because they don’t play the game themselves. What we will do for you is take these clients that you know should be entertained, and do it for you. We will play 18 holes of golf with your clients at one of XYZ golf courses; these are some of the nicest courses in the area, and we can entertain up to three clients at a time for eighteen holes of golf. You can be assured your clients will be treated with the utmost courtesy and respect. (You may also add you are able to give his clients golf tips that will help improve their game. “ONLY” do this if you are qualified to do so, if not skip this part it won’t matter). Most of all we see that your client have fun on the golf course, and at the end of the round you are free to join your clients for cocktails and any unfinished business that needs to be discussed. Your customers are sure to be appreciative of you for showing them a great day.

Mr. Customer, how many clients can you think of, that you have, that could be entertained to help solidify your business with them? If they come back with a positive number, say great when would you like us to start? They may come back with well that depends, how much does it cost? (it is completely up to you how much you charge, I will give my suggestions later). Give them a fee schedule and ask if there is a particular golf course they would like you to entertain their clients at. Try and get them to commit right then without being to pushy. Remember you will be entertaining their clients, they won’t trust someone that is cocky or pushy. If they won’t commit right then, follow up with phone calls and emails.

Try not to make a canned sales pitch, be yourself when talking to potential clients.

Cold calling can often be a frustrating and difficult task. If you choose this method don’t let yourself become disappointed, be tenacious and persistent and you will get results.

How You Get Paid

This area is completely up to your discretion, but I will explain how I hear to do it. Charge no less than $200.00 per 18 holes of golf (I would start at $300.00) plus all expenses. Expenses include greens fees for all players including you, any balls, gloves, tees, or equipment the client wants to buy or rent for their customer. You should furnish all your own accessories and equipment. Any meals, soft drinks, cocktails, or miscellaneous items your client wants you to provide for his customers are all considered expenses. When discussing payment from your client, I would figure approximate expenses and ask for that up front, along with one half of my fee. The balance would be paid following the round of golf. I would always get your expenses up front, that way you never really lose if they don’t pay and that can happen.

Entertaining On The Golf Course

This area should be very simple, its almost like playing a friendly round of golf with your buddies. On the other hand it may be different depending on how you act while playing with friends. One of the most important parts of this program is how you act when you are on the golf course. It’s important that you treat clients you are entertaining exceptionally well, even if they are the biggest jerks in the world. You should know most of the basic rules of golf, but most important, your etiquette needs to be impeccable. Be sure to follow proper etiquette at all times, and be helpful in finding lost balls and any other way you may be of help. If you do these small things your clients will love you. This will help you with additional repeat business in the future. I can’t stress enough for you to act properly on the golf course. You will need to be a very likable professional person while playing golf with clients and be sure the clients are having a great time on the course. You will find many different personality types on the course some will want to laugh and joke while others will be serious and let their tempers flair. You will need to be like a sports psychologist, catering to their every need. One last comment, never, never be cocky on the golf course, people hate cocky players.

How To Play At Exclusive Country Clubs Without Being a Member

Unfortunately this is something that won’t happen all the time. But, when it does, it can be a real treat. Most exclusive country clubs are very private and often require a members request to get you on the course. But there will be occasions in your business in which you will run into a business person that is a member at an exclusive club, but doesn’t have the time necessary to entertain as they should. If this happens to be the case, you will occasionally find they will offer you the opportunity to entertain their clients at their country club.

How To Show Others To Make Money Playing Golf, While You Make Money From Their Efforts

Once you have established your business you’ll find you may need other players to help you entertain your clients. These occasions will arise when customers are going to want you to entertain on the same days. Because of the length of time required to play a round of golf you may find this difficult to do on your own. Rather than turn down the business, and potentially lose any future business that may evolve, have two or three golfers you can call to do the entertaining for you. Be sure you have screened and trained these individuals ahead of time to assure the quality of individual you have working for you. The last thing you want is someone to ruin your reputation. In regard to paying them, I would pay them no more than half the fee you obtain from your client. You deserve the other half for the work you have done to obtain the client.

I can assure you, you will not have a problem finding someone to entertain for you. There are hundreds of quality people willing to golf for free and get paid.

Why You Don’t Need to Be a Good Player For This to Work For You

As mentioned before it is not necessary for you to be a scratch golfer or single digit handicapper for this program to work. The majority of your entertainment responsibility will be to see that your clients have fun when you entertain them. In the event you are not a single digit of scratch player and your client requires a quality player, here is how to go about obtaining one. The first area to look would be to contact assistant golf professionals at local golf courses. These individuals generally don’t make much money and are always looking for avenues to supplement their incomes. Be sure to check on their playing ability, just because they are an assistant golf professional doesn’t mean they are a good player. Second, check on their availability, they generally work long hours and don’t have much free time. Another alternative is to take out a small classified ad in you local paper, your phone will ring off the hook. Again be sure to screen your applicants playing ability, many people like to think they are a good player when they really aren’t.

Money Back Guarantee

I will refund your $47.95 in full within 60 days of you receiving your package if you actually purchased the program. If you just did an e-mail submit or zip code submit there is no type of refund. But if you did purchase the package all that I ask id that you put forth an effort to apply this program. A new business is always hardest in the beginning; with a little persistence you will build a client base that will call you constantly.

Other Helpful Suggestions

I am going to give you a small saying that you should use in your sales literature, ads, and sales presentation:

“THEY ARE YOUR CLIENTS, IF YOU DON’T ENTERTAIN THEM YOUR COMPETITION WILL”

This saying will get their attention especially if they currently are not entertaining their clients.

Dress On The Golf Course

This is totally your discretion; however, I suggest you dress in a professional manner, with neat pressed clean clothes. I really don’t suggest shorts, they don’t look professional. Often, it is small things that make a difference. Never forget you may run into one or two companies that really like what you do for them. It only takes a couple good ones to keep you busy on a consistent basis.

Conclusion

This is your opportunity to have fun playing golf while earning money. The only thing that can stop you is you. Have fun, earn lots of money, and we’ll see you on the golf course.
