FREE PUTTING TIP CURING THE "YIPS"

This free putting tip is something every golfer should copy and store in a file. If you have never had the yips and you play golf long enough there is a chance you will. If you have them now, you are at wits end trying to get over them. Here's the solution, it's simple but it will take some work on the putting green.

The yips are caused by changing grip pressure during the putting stroke. If you have the yips, next time on the putting green pay particular attention to grip pressure during the putting stroke. Notice when you yip it how grip pressure changes, but when you make a good stroke the pressure stays constant. Begin practicing maintaining constant grip pressure at the beginning of the stroke until the end. Notice when you have the same pressure at the end of the stroke as the start, how much better the putter goes down the line.

Even if you don't have the yips pay attention to grip pressure. Most players never pay attention to this; they simply try making a good back and forth putting stroke. More consistant grip pressure will result in a more consistant stroke. As you can see anyone can benifit by maintaining consistant pressure.

In addition to grip pressure try making a longer backswing with the putter, allowing more for a pendulum stroke with the putter rather than a hit. Many times poor grip pressure and a short putting stroke go hand in hand.

There is an item that just came on the market in the last year that will help a player maintain consistant grip pressure through out the stroke, that would be the fat putter grip. More and more tour players are turning to this grip on their putters.
